Life’s WORC,
steeped in the PCP philosophy from its inception of supporting individuals that existed in Willowbrook, has always maintained a standard of excellence with the focus on the individuals’ desires.

Twelve years ago, Life’s WORC formalized its commitment to person centered planning by developing a PCP department and actively supporting people with developmental disabilities in having a PCP process.

Person Centered Planning (PCP) is an ongoing problem-solving process used to help individuals with disabilities plan for their future.  In planning, people who are involved in the individual’s life (known as circle members) attend meetings to discuss and support the individual’s vision of what they would like to do in the future.  PCP provides an understanding of the individual, focusing on the person’s gifts, talents and skills.  PCP depends on the commitment of the circle members to take action to make sure that the strategies discussed in planning meetings are implemented.
Each individual interested in joining this performing ensemble auditions in front of a panel of expert musicians and performers.  Entry into this program is based upon the following factors: raw talent, a commitment to attend the weekly three hour workshops, and a pledge to perform in a minimum of two concerts. This ensemble consists of twenty-five individuals under the direction of an artistic director, two professional musicians and guest artists as needed. Each workshop is designed to suit the needs of the members.  The curriculum consists of but not limited to: learning stage presence, enhancing the proficiency of an established instrument, vocal projection/control, proper utilization of musical technology, understanding musical cues, voice/musical dynamics, and performance etiquette.
2. Introductions through Life is a person centered program that gives individuals with disabilities the opportunity to meet new people that may be compatible for possible romantic relationships.  Individuals are invited to participate in a variety of on-going relaxed activities to meet people from different agencies and counties, who share similar interests, values, and desires. Each event has a theme such as Luau Night which was a celebration of summer fun.
Two such programs that have evolved from Life’s WORC’s person centered efforts are:

1. Life’s Connections through Music is a person centered program to bring people with disabilities from a variety of agencies/communities that have a strong desire of playing an instrument/singing together with professional musicians to develop a performing ensemble.  The focus of Life’s Connection through Music is twofold. First, it gives people with disabilities an opportunity to nurture their raw talent and perform with highly skilled musicians.  Secondly, it assists those interested in pursuing a music performance career, the chance to explore all the possibilities.
