Position: VOLUNTEER HELPER RESPITE RECREATION - Location: Queens Village, NY
Description: The Volunteer Helper Respite Recreation is a non paid worker giving a minimum of five (5)
hours volunteer service per week on a pre-determined long or short term commitment. Days and Hours: 5 hours per day (Saturdays or Sundays 10:30am - 4:30pm). Length of service to be agreed upon before beginning to volunteer. Duties and Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to assisting staff with individuals in program as
they participate in activities associated with community integration. Provide support and guidance to individuals in program. as required. Assure safety in program activities through vigilant observations. Assist individuals in arts and crafts. Provide companionship to individuals (i.e. talk, read, listen to music, play games, etc) when appropriate. Participate in group activities. Accompany staff and assist individuals on community trips and recreation. Assist staff with other tasks as required. Must attend orientation session, volunteer meetings, and evaluations sessions as requiredRequirements: Minimum age requirement - High School Student at least 16 years old. Mature behavior having good judgement. Sense of responsibility. Dependability. Emotionally stable. Sensitive to needs of the children. Patience. Ability to follow instructions as well as show initiative when necessary or applicable. Must be in good health with no contagious diseases. Complete an annual PPD test (must supply doctors statement) and Background check with fingerprinting required.
Position:VOLUNTEER IN A RESIDENCE - Locations in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties Description: The Volunteer in a residence is a non paid worker giving a minimum of three-four (3-4) hours
volunteer service per week with a pre-determined long or short term commitment. Days and Hours: 3 - 4 Hours per day at least once per week Monday-Friday evenings 3:30 - 6:30pm or weekends with hours to be determined by residence (long or short term commitment).
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist staff with tasks as directed, in support of individuals living in the
home. Must attend orientation sessions, volunteer meetings, and evaluations sessions as required. Keep up-to-date with agency information by familiarizing yourself with all communications, rules and procedures conducted by program where you are volunteering. Provide companionship to supported individuals (i.e. talk, read, listen to music, play games, etc) when appropriate. Accompany staff and individuals on errands, community activities, and recreational trips. Assist with wheelchair maneuvering if required. Assist staff in other tasks as required. Requirements: Minimum requirement - 18 years of age. Mature behavior with good judgement. Sense of
responsibility. Dependability. Emotional stability. Sensitivity to needs of individual. Patience. Good disposition and a Sense of humor. Ability to follow instructions as well as show initiative when necessary or applicable. Must be in good health and complete an annual PPD test. Must consent to a background check with fingerprinting.
Position: VOLUNTEER MAKING CONNECTIONS - Locations: Glen Cove NY or Bayshore NY
Description: The Volunteer Helper in Making Connections is a non paid worker giving a minimum of 4-5 hours volunteer service on a pre-determined long or short term commitment. Days and Hours: 4 Hours a day (10:30am - 2:30pm) on alternate Saturdays either at Glen Cove or Bay Shore (Choose your site) Duties and Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to assisting staff with children participating in
play therapy activities. Provide support and guidance to individuals in program. Assure safety in program activities through vigilant observations. Assist individuals in arts and crafts. Interact with children by talking, reading, listening to music, playing games, etc. to engage children in focus and learning techniques. Participate in group activities. Accompany staff and assist individuals on community trips and recreation. Assist staff in tasks as required. Must attend orientation session, volunteer meetings, and evaluations sessions as required. Keep up-to-date with agency information by familiarizing self with all communications and rules and procedures conducted by program where you are volunteering.
