Special Needs Job Expo Success

Life’s WORC, along with FREE, ACLD, Skills Unlimited, and TRI hosted a Job Expo on Friday June 8, 2018, at Farmingdale State College. More than people registered to attend the event, and it was wonderful to see so many people at Life’s WORC take advantage of the workshops and forum.

The keynote speaker was from John’s Crazy Socks, and I cannot describe how inspirational it was to hear both Mark and John Kronin speak about the journey to creating a successful business.  For those of you who may not know, John had a lifelong passion for unique and interesting socks and a drive to work after he graduated from a Special Education School.  He, along with his father, were able to take an idea and create it into a successful business.  Please visit their website at JohnsCrazySocks.com.

In addition to the keynote, Life’s WORC had the opportunity to honor two Star Employers.  Customized Employment participant Stephanie honored Jennifer Cona, from Genser, Dubow, Genser & Cona Law Firm, and Chris honored Angela, the manager from Mama Soup.  Both Stephanie and Chris did an amazing job describing why they are so grateful to their employers for the opportunities given to them.

Finally, Supervisor Joseph Saladino awarded Life’s WORC with a citation from the Town of Oyster Bay for our dedication in supporting people with different needs obtain employment.

Thank you to all of the participants from Life’s WORC Day Habilitation who dressed their best to meet various businesses on Long Island. Huge thank you to Melissa Cuevas, Samara McCarthy, and Margaret Ditusa for volunteering at the event, and an extra thank you to Ericka Charles and Pamela Curtiss for planning and coordinating for the past few months to ensure the event was a success.  Their efforts are to be commended!
